Seaford Level Crossing Removal Project
April to November 2019
The Seaford Level Crossing Removal Project is part of the Victorian State Governments plan to remove 75 of the most dangerous and disruptive rail crossings across Melbourne. This project involved a rail overpass across the busy Seaford Road and a major improvement of the walking paths parks and community spaces around the RF Miles Reserve area. The Southern Program Alliance, a partnership between Lend lease, Coleman Rail, WSP and Metro Trains, is constructing the project on behalf of the Level Crossing Removal Authority.
In September 2018 Yarra View & Bushland Flora was awarded the contract to supply over 100,000 native trees, shrubs and grasses for the project across 2 stages during 2019. The area is very sensitive to ensuring local indigenous species are being planted and the area maintains its coastal bushland feel. Significant planning and growing time was needed to ensure species to specification were being produced. A partnership between the Frankston Indigenous nursery and Yarra View, Bushland Flora Nursery for the supply of mature Coastal Banksia’s grown from seed collected in the area was a key to the success of the project.
The project has created a number of new jobs along with over 4,000 hours of paid employment for people with disabilities.
